Brightly Colored Anything

So last night, I left my faithful pink Klean Kanteen water bottle at the Somerville Theatre. Dee went and looked for it where I left it, and Soul Twin is looking for it again tonight, but I have a habit of losing things with finality, and so I am worried it is gone forever.

I found it in a rehearsal space at Tanglewood, ran it through the dishwasher and VOILA! A new old waterbottle for Deborah. I actually did this once with a teal Nalgene I found in a park on my way to the grocery store. This is unsurprising as when I was little I used to eat candy off the ground. And not candy that I had dropped. Just candy. That I found. On the ground.

There is a SLIGHT chance that my pink waterbottle is actually in my bag at home. I literally collapsed when I got home last night, falling asleep next to a large pile of stuff on my bed and had to rush to leave the house this morning since I slept through my alarm. But I should have a back up waterbottle anyhow.

Enter my new friend:

It. Is. So. Glorious. It has the sun shining. It has a green bird flying. It has sheep with squiggly lines grazing. It has a house with a funny chimney. A Yellow sun. It has a tree house in a weird teal tree with branches that look like snakes. Come on. THIS. WATERBOTTLE. IS. AMAZING.

I have named my waterbottle Beatrice.

Now of course, I was drawn to Beatrice because she is brightly colored. I would now like to discuss all the other wonderful things in the world that are brightly colored.

My new tissue box

When I saw this box of tissues at CVS I knew we were meant to be.

Penny Hansen. Just in general.

She is like bright pink. But a person.

Prince Sparkles con Carne

He is a nice bright yellow. But mostly I love this picture. I won Prince Sparkles con Carne at Dave and Busters in Providence, Rhode Island. Prince Sparkles con Carne had crooked eyes. In this photo I was trying to make my eyes look crooked like Print Sparkles con Carne's. Clearly, I succeeded.

This Dog

Okay. So he is TECHNICALLY not brightly colored. But the other day, while standing outside the stage door at the Somerville Theatre, this poofy dream walked by. And he had the nicest dog parents ever. His name was Kogee. Kudos. Koleander. I don't remember. But I got to kneel down and scratch his poofy back and kiss his poofy face and DIE OF JOY A LITTLE BIT INSIDE.

Things Deb Wants: Part 1

So yesterday Soul Twin and I were in the car for a grand total of about 6 hours. This means we talked about feelings for 6 hours, so one would think I would have no more feelings to share. One would think wrong. To be honest when Sara dropped me off at my house I still felt like there was more to say. Good thing my Soul Twin and I have the g-chat.

Soul twin recently shared with me this blog in which the author goes on a self-induced "spending fast." This means she spent no money on non-essentials (even things that I personally consider essential, such as going to the movies and expensive hair cuts) for an entire year! I am in awe of her.

I recently went on a bit of a spending spree. My recent weight gain, paired with my new attitude about my RIDICULOUSLY AWESOME body resulted in the purchasing of almost an entirely new wardrobe. And even though many of the pieces were free (another shout out to Jan!) it was a lot of money spent.

Now since "Things Deb Loves" has recently become a place where I share ridiculously personal things with all you peops (to be hoenst I'm only surprised I was able to keep my deep feelings in for so long) I will share with you that I have often struggled with my finances. I am  not only an over-eater but an over-spender (oh surprise). And, if we are going to think of it in the very simplest of terms, they are for the same reason. I eat to feel good, and I spend to feel good. Well that and I spend because I'm lazy and don't want to cook, as evidenced by my love of bagged, un-organic Caesar salad. But laziness is not the point.

Now, every person is different, so my idea of what constitutes a necessity (i.e. haircuts with Leila, going to the movies with Nickers, yoga class etc.) is going to be different from anyone else's, but I feel like the exercise itself is so important. Separating what we need from what we want, I feel, can be invaluable. Well that and I have been in Credit Card debt since I became a legal adult and though Sallie Mae is forever I would like to be debt-free in some capacity at some point and the only way I'm going to be able to do that is by paying off that debt right? right.

So I began this exercise here at my desk. And all the sudden I felt overwhelmed with wanting things. So I thought I would share with you all the ridiculous and/or awesome things on which I would like to spend my money but from which I will refrain.

1) A Two-Day pass to the Newport Folk Festival.

When I look at that lineup I literally shed a tear.

2) A tutu.

Elizabeth sent me a link to a garage sale going on today where the woman is selling a purple tutu. So now I want one. Like a lot.

3) A wicker basket for my bicycle.

Yes, I know I already have a bike rack and panniers (panniers that are so awesome that a fellow bike rider told me she thought they were cute while I beamed with so much pride you might think I had stitched them myself), but I still want a wicker basket to put on the front. Because they look so cute and earthy!

4) A dog that resembles a small bear

Sara and I met one in the parking lot of a liquor store yesterday. His owner told us he weighed 140lbs which is actually more than many of my friends weigh. You can imagine that when I saw him across the parking lot I wept with joy while sprinting to meet him and throw my arms around his hairy dog neck.

As a side note, I would accept the following in lieu of said dog.

Okay, so I'd prefer the latter. But you can't really order Galifinakis online. Cause if you could I already would have. Duh.

Dogs Wearing Bandanas

This morning while walking to work I saw a dog wearing a bandana and I thought to myself, "Why do dogs look so great in bandanas?" To which I responded with another question, "Why don't I have a dog, so that we could wear matching bandanas?" To which I responded with a bout of spontaneous weeping and breast beating while shouting, "MISTER WAFFLES!!!!!!!!!!!! MISTER WAFFLES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Anywho, dogs in bandanas look like little farm hands. Or messy eaters. Or bee keepers. Little hairy bee keepers.

Look at how pissed this dog is. He is thinking, "If  you don't take this bandana off my  neck I'm going to poop in your bed." Too bad. Cause he looks pretty freaking adorable. He looks like a wee bandit. He will roam the wild west highjacking wee freight trains and shooting up wee banks.

This is a fancy bandana. Almost like an ascot. Cause Lassie is fancy, okay. You can tell by the way her paw is folded under her that she thinks she better than you. And she would be right.

Everytime I see a boxer, all I can think is, "FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACCCCCCCCCE." This friend got his bandana from Etsy. Clearly. I wonder if she'd let me borrow it cause it's kind of cute.

As a side note, one time I tired the dog sorbet at J.P. Licks. It was okay.

The Weekend Edition: August 14-15, 2010

Olive, Mona, Deuce, Lulu and Carter

Okay, so this past weekend I was in the Berkshires with my glorious friends, Dee and Heather. And though there were lots of things to love about this weekend (i.e. Dee and Heather, Leslie, Claudia, brunch with my peops, laying on a blanket under a big tree in the sunshine, walking around the aforementioned big tree trying to find some ground flat enough to do a forearm balance, eating dinner at the Dreamaway, sitting by the fire at the Dreamaway, and singing rufus at the top of my lungs while sticking my head out the window of Dee and Heather's car) the part of the weekend I would like to highlight, is that part where I pet dogs. Lots of dogs.

Meet Olive.

Olive is a French Bulldog. Olive comes to work with her mommy who is the manager of the store on the first floor of my former office building. Olive has pointy ears and snorts when she gets excited.

We played fetch with Olive's teal and pink toy. Clearly, Olive has very good taste in toys.

Meet Mona.

Mona. Has. Three. Legs. I have never in my life wanted anything more than a three-legged dog. Not to mention Mona is the size of small horse. She also does not beg for attention. She purposely sits away from everyone and waits for you to come to her. And you will. Because she is a three-legged horse dog with poofy, white fur.

See? THREE. LEGS. I LOVE HER.

Meet Deuce.

This is Deuce with Heather. He is a MAN dog. With a bandana around his neck. Deuce appreciates good accessories.

I've decided Deuce is my perfect man, but he is a dog. He is large and hairy (ESPECIALLY his chest) and slightly stupid, which means I would be smarter which I 'm okay with. On occassion, I am a fan of being intellectually superior to dogs and men.

Dog Hand.

Meet Lulu.

I knelt down to pet Lulu and ended up cuddling with her for 10 minutes. It was probably the best 10 minutes of my life.

Meet Carter.

Carter is the dog who lives at the Dreamaway Lodge. I fed him a potato chip from Dee's plate so that he would let me pet him for longer. It didn't work. He took my potato chip and abandoned me. I only cried for a couple minutes. I soothed myself with Meatloaf and a Brownie sundae.

Did you know I love Dogs? Cause I do. If I had to make a comprehensive list of things that I love it would go like this:

1) People I love (you know... Dad, Mom etc.)
2) Dogs
3) My bed
4) Ricotta Pie

That is all.

Asian Babies, The Common Dog Shuttle Bus and My Sparkly Blue Converse

1. Asian Babies

All babies are cute. But some babies are just cuter than others. It's a biological fact. Asian Babies are cuter. As a side note, I would like to dedicate Love #1 today to Leslie Diane DeRoche, who is moving to China come March, and to Diane and Heather, because they are the best two moms an Asian Baby ever had.

It's a baby in a burger. I. Want. One. A baby and a burger. But mostly a burger. From Friendly's. Cause their meat is shaped like a flower.

This baby is really cute, but I am now obsessed with the idea of a burger.

Oh yeah.

1. (Amended) Asian Babies and Burgers

2. The Common Dog Shuttle Bus

Many moons ago, I was riding the 39 bus down Boylston Street, when we stopped at a stoplight. I looked out the window only to see a white school bus. But instead of children in the seat, there were dogs. Oh, yes. A bus FULL of dogs. I thought, for a moment I was dreaming. Until two days later, same time, same bus, I saw it again. I noticed that on the side of the bus it said "The Common Dog", so I immediately rushed to work to google this glorious company and see if they would hire me as the bus driver of the dog bus. They, unfortunately, were not taking applications at the time, but a girl can dream.

This is what I saw while looking out the bus window. What joy! What bliss!

This is what I like to imagine it looks like on the inside of the bus. Look at the sleepy boxer in the front. He says, "I'm not a morning person." And the little black and white dog says, "Let's cuddle!" And the golden retriever in the second row says, "Where we going? Somewhere fun? OH GOD I HOPE IT'S SOMEWHERE FUN!!!!" And the weimaraner is saying, "Why do so many crazies take public transportation? I need to buy a car." And then the little beagle in the third row says, "I don't WANNA go to school. I want to stay home and play with my MOMMY." Oh little beagle. I feel your pain.

3. My Sparkly Blue Converse

These are my favorite pair of shoes ever. They make me feel super cool when I am wearing them because not only are they chucks, which are bitchin to begin with, but they are also sparkly. Today, as I am feeling rather downtrodden, I am choosing to go on a photographic walk down memory lane, so I can relive all the adventures my sparkly chucks and I have had, and hopefully boost my mood.

This is me and my sparkly chucks doing a jig at the Arcade Fire concert. We loved the Arcade Fire concert, my chucks and me. Not only did we do this jig while waiting for the concert to begin, but we also danced the night away to the oh-so-glorious musics of the Arcade Fire. We even cried a couple times, and held each other. Sometimes, my chucks and I are a little co-dependent.

This is when me and my chucks spent some much-needed cuddle time with Haimisch Zimmerpants at Meryl's most genius of surprise birthday party celebrations on the roof top deck of a bar by Fenway. We had a very good time. We drank beer. We ate Nachos. My chucks love Nachos. We played Birthday Trivia. It was a great time all around. As we were going to sleep, my chucks said, "I wish everyday could be as glorious as today." To which I responded, "Me too, little shoes. Me too."

All right, so this is not a very good picture of me. I am a sweaty beast, and am mid-dance move so it looks like my breasts are trying to escape from my dress, but look at those sparkles! We really tore up the dance floor at Natalie's wedding. My chucks favorite dance was the Pas-de-Deux to Boom-Boom-Pow (called thus by the glorious Sara Oettinger).

I also wore my sparkly chucks to walk around downtown and then watch Moonstruck at the Charles Hotel with my dear friend Erica Bateserson. This was the day of days for sure. My chucks really like Moonstruck. Sometimes I'll come home and find them sitting in front of the TV watching it. This is very strange for me, as I'm not sure how they figured out how to work the DVD Player.

I can't wait for all the other adventures my sparkly converse and I will have. For they are magical. Like a magic wand, but shoes. And sparkly.
